How we make money

Editorial standard

How we research

A clear method makes a recommendation easier to question, reproduce, and improve.

We begin with a buyer decision

Each guide starts with a defined use case, price range, region, and set of realistic constraints. We avoid mixing products that solve meaningfully different problems simply because retailers place them in the same category.

Source hierarchy

We prefer primary documentation when it can answer a factual question: manufacturer manuals and specifications, written warranty terms, safety or recall notices, certification records, and current retailer disclosures. We use reputable independent testing and long-term owner reporting to examine behavior that specifications cannot show.

Retail star ratings and marketing copy are never treated as proof by themselves. When sources disagree, we describe the uncertainty or leave the claim out.

Scoring and comparisons

Criteria are selected before products are considered for a ranking. Each guide explains the criteria and their weights. We may adjust weights for different buyer profiles, but we do not adjust them to make a particular product win.

Useful evidence

Direct documentation, clearly described tests, and observations with enough context to compare.

Limited evidence

Unverified listings, isolated anecdotes, or test results missing key conditions are labeled or excluded.

Commercial influence

Affiliate eligibility, samples, and advertiser relationships do not set a score or guarantee inclusion.

Hands-on testing claims

We only say a product was physically tested when that testing actually occurred, and the guide will describe the setup and relevant limits. Research-only guides are labeled as such and do not borrow the language of hands-on testing.

Prices, updates, and corrections

Prices and stock change quickly. A guide may use a price band for context, but readers should confirm the current delivered price. We review published pages when material specifications, safety information, or warranty terms change.

Readers and brands may submit a correction through the contact page. Evidence-supported corrections are made without requiring a commercial relationship.
